Tunisian Constituent Assembly adopts provisional constitution
Tunisia's newly elected Constituent Assembly last Saturday, 10 December adopted an interim constitution, following five days of deliberation. وسيعيد الدستور المؤقت تشكيل مؤسسات الدولة والسماح بتعيين حكومة جديدة. It also paves the way for the election of a new President of the Republic who must be at least 35 years of age, exclusively Tunisian and of the Muslim religion.
Tunisia Vote for Constituent Assembly Delayed
Tunisia's interim Prime Minister, Beji Caid Essebsi announced Wednesday that the interim government had accepted a request from the electoral commission to postpone the country's elections from July 24 to October 23, due to technical difficulties related to the timeous registration of voters, (France 24). The elections are for the selection of delegates to a constituent assembly that will be charged with drafting a new constitution.
World Bank Support for a New Tunisia
The World Bank, on May 4, announced that it is extending a USD500 million dollar loan to the Tunisian state as part of an effort to "provide a boost for the transitional government's efforts in freedom of association; access to information; transparency in public procurement; beneficiary participation in service delivery; and retraining of unemployed workers".
