■ International support mapping
This dataset presents information about international support to the constitution building processes of ten selected countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. It covers processes from the early 1990s to 2009 and is searchable by country, donor, year, activity, objective and thematic focus. The selected countries are Nepal, Bolivia, Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, East Timor, Ecuador, Fiji, Iraq, Kenya, and Uganda.
The dataset responds to a research gap in this area. While information is available from a number of online resources on democracy support projects, it can be complicated to determine the scope of international support to a particular constitution building process. The fragmented state of information can thus create difficulties when trying to understand the role of international support to constitution building and how to create better partnerships between countries undergoing constitutional processes and donors.
The primary purpose of the dataset is to support the work of the Constitution Building Programme of International IDEA. It is available here as a general resource for those who share an interest in this area, and is designed to allow visitors to view the scope of activities supported by donors during the constitution building processes of the ten selected countries. Funding commitments are not directly comparable between donors or countries, since the recorded contributions occasionally may include additional activities unrelated to the constitution building process.
