Second Pilot of the Constitution Building Training Programme, Hong Kong

The Constitution Building Training Programme is a capacity building tool made up of eight modules currently under development by International IDEA. The development process includes testing the content and methodology of the training modules with groups of learners from Africa, Asia and Latin America. The second pilot of the Constitution Building Training Programme took place in Hong Kong in June 2010. Practitioners from Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Hong Kong took part in the 4.5 day training based on two modules, Introduction to Constitution Building and Building a Culture of Rights and Responsibilities. The video explains the purpose of the Constitution Building Training Programme and features participants of the Hong Kong pilot explaining their impressions of the training programme and its relevance to their national contexts.

African Conference on Constitution Building Processes

With the entry into force of the Constitutive Act of the African Union in 2000 and the adoption of the Charter for Democracy, Elections and Good Governance in January 2007, Africa entered a new phase of constitutional development that was to be based on shared values and principles enshrined in the Act of the Union and its other relevant Declarations. Since then, the AU has taken more steps to promote constitutionalism on the Continent. It is in this context that it partnered with International IDEA and the Government of Benin to organize a Pan – African Conference on Constitution Building from 25-27 October in Cotonou, Benin bringing together delegates and constitutional experts from AU member states and other participants from Latin America, Asia and the Western Hemisphere. These two videos capture excerpts from the opening and closing ceremonies of the conference.
