Constitutional Committee to be formed in Taiwan

<p>&nbsp;</p><p>The Legislative Yuan agreed Wednesday to form a constitutional amendment committee by the end of the month.</p><p>After last November’s local elections, calls for more political reform grew louder, with New Taipei City Mayor Eric Liluan Chu listing a number of constitutional changes as he declared his candidacy to become chairman of the Kuomintang.&nbsp;<span style="line-height: 20.3999996185303px;">According to a consensus reached by the political parties at the Legislature on Wednesday, the committee will count 39 members selected according to proportional representation, with its approval slated for March 20 at the earliest and the choice of conveners scheduled for March 25. The committee could begin its work in April, reports said.</span></p>
