Op-ed: Pakistan Constitution provides equal rights to all minorities

Chairman Senate Defence Committee Mushahid Hussain Syed has said that Pakistan's Constitution provides equal rights to all minorities living in the country. He, along with other committee members, was interacting, with the family of Major Harcharan Singh in Nankana Sahib on Sunday who is the highest serving Sikh officer in the Pakistan Army. The committee also expressed solidarity with the Sikh community which has been facing oppression in India due to the narrow-minded Hindutva policies of the Modi Government. The lawmakers also visited the residence of Captain Hasnain Shaheed, who laid down his life defending the motherland on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, to offer fateha for the martyred captain. Speaking on the occasion, Mushahid Hussain Syed praised sacrifices of soldiers and officers of the Pakistan Army to thwart enemy's designs against the motherland. He also welcomed the recent visits of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa to Afghanistan and Iran and said these visits will contribute to Pakistan's national security and regional stability. The Senate Defence Committee also visited the Gurdawara in Nankana Sahib where the founder of the Sikh religion Guru Nanak was born in 1469.
