The Philippines: Law makers say Constitution is ripe for review

<p>THE House independent bloc on Monday expressed their support for proposals to amend the economic provisions of the 1987 Constitution. </p> <p>Abakada Party-list Representative Jonathan de la Cruz said there are provisions in the Constitution that need some amendments but stressed that lawmakers should look at them with more responsibility. </p> <p>De la Cruz said that they will support Charter change moves as long as a Constitutional Convention (Con-con) will draw up the amendments.</p> <p>"Con-con na lang so we will have delegates that will be relatively free from the politics of the day. This is not an ordinary law but the Constitution so we need to look at it with more judicious responsibility. That may open the floodgates for a lot of things," dela Cruz said.</p>
