Sri Lanka to conduct constitutional debate in the coming months

A debate on Sri Lanka's Constitutional reforms is likely to take place towards the end of June. An interim report, summarizing main reform postulates prepared by the Constitutional Assembly Secretariat, has been now submitted to the Steering Committee which will shortly start it deliberations and finalize the document. To date, the Steering Committee has conducted over 50 meetings and managed to achieve a broad agreement on some of the crucial aspects of the reform, including electoral law and devolution of power.
