South Sudan President under fire over new constitutional review body

South Sudan’s President, Salva Kirr, is coming under fire since issuing a decree constituting a 45 - member National Constitutional Review Commission on January 9.  The Commission, which is tasked with writing a permanent Constitution to replace the interim Charter, is made up of part time and permanent members.

Burkina Faso: Debate on abolishing term limits gains steam

The debate on abolishing presidential term limits has once again moved to the fore in ongoing discussions on political reforms in Burkina Faso. In a three day conference from 7-9 December, participants -mostly sympathisers of the ruling party debated the tiopic.

Tunisian Constituent Assembly adopts provisional constitution

Tunisia’s newly elected Constituent Assembly last Saturday, 10 December adopted an interim constitution, following five days of deliberation. The interim constitution will reestablish state institutions and allow for a new government to be appointed. It also paves the way for the election of a new President of the Republic who must be at least 35 years of age, exclusively Tunisian and of the Muslim religion.
