Resurrecting the Developmental State Model: Ecuador's Experience

Carlo Luis Giraldo, former advisor to Ecuador’s 2008 Constituent Assembly, talks to International IDEA about the politics behind the re mergence of the State as the key driver of economic development in Ecuador. He also weighs in on the State’s challenges and successes in implementing these reforms, lesson learning as well as other salient features of the 2008constitution, such as the constitutional recognition of the rights of nature. The interview was granted on the sidelines of a Dialogue for Constitution Building Practitioners organised by International IDEA and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Pretoria, South Africa in March 2011 on the theme Constitution Building and the Dynamics of Economic Change
