In the Gambia, parliament debates constitutional amendment to enlarge national assembly and reserve seats

The Bill is entitled an Act to Amend the Constitution of the Republic of The Gambia (1997) to enlarge the composition of elected members of the National Assembly and also provide for the reservation of specific seats for women and persons with disabilities and for connected matters. She said the Bill also imposes an obligation on political parties to promote gender equity in the selection of candidates to contest National Assembly elections as well as the respect for human rights.
