Kenya:CORD's initiative to amend constitution through referendum flops

<p><span>The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has said the ‘Okoa Kenya’ proposal by opposition Cord to amend the constitution has collapsed for failing to meet the required threshold.</span></p><p>The electoral body announced Tuesday that the number of valid signatures supporting the initiative fell short of the required one million registered voters.</p><p>“The analysis of data presented by the Okoa Kenya popular initiative has shown that the number of valid registered voters supporting the initiative is 891, 598. This falls short of the one million registered voters required by law,” IEBC Chairman Issack Hassan said.</p><p>Cord last year October submitted 1.4 million signatures to IEBC for verification.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>
