Liberia's house speaker opposes proposals for a 'Christian' state

<p>House Speaker J. Alex Tyler has declared his opposition to calls to make Liberia a Christian state.</p><p>Speaking to the Liberia News Agency in Ganta on Sunday following his tour of the south-eastern region, Speaker Tyler pointed out the country’s problem is not based on religion and, as such, Christianizing the state should not be the concern of Liberians.</p><p>“Liberia’s problem is not about religion and so I don’t want Christianizing the state to be our problem,” Speaker Tyler stressed.</p><p>He suggested that Liberia remains a secular state as it is, noting that Christianizing Liberia is a recipe for conflict.</p>
