Tanzania: Battle heats up over constitutional review bill

<div class="story-body"><p><strong>Dar es Salaam</strong> — Three Tanzanian opposition parties plan to stage countrywide protests October 10th against the Constitutional Review Bill, which sets the rules for how the Constituent Assembly -- the body tasked to amending and adopting the future form of government -- is formed.</p> <p>Opposition leaders and other stakeholders say the bill, which the National Assembly passed earlier this month, could tear the country apart and are demanding that President Jakaya Kikwete reject it. They contend the bill denies the people of Zanzibar equal representation in the Constituent Assembly.</p>
