Libya: Conference Report: ''Democracy Standards in an Islamic Context''

This report, also available in Arabic, is from the conference on Islam and International standards of Democracy, held in Tripoli, Libya in June 2013. The conference was hosted by Democracy Reporting International and the Libyan Center for Strategic & Future Studies, and sponsored by the National Council for Civil Liberties & Human Rights, Right to Nonviolence, and the Sadeq Institute. The report includes papers and commentary from leading scholars to explore precedents in Islamic law around four themes found in international democracy standards:

- Human Rights

- Women Rights

- Judicial Systems

- Balance of Power

The report is useful to policymakers and advocates engaged in constitution-making processes in Muslim-majority countries, in Libya and beyond.
